Runaway.
– On Wednesday of last week, at Foster's Meadow, the horses of
Mr. Walter Smith, frightened that the effluvia of the bone dust manure
he was using in his cornfield, started off, ran over and hurt Mr.
Smith, and did other injury before they were secured, which was only
after a long race on the highway. |

One
day last week, Jennie (aged about 3 years), child of Jacob Foster, at
Springfield, Jamaica, was severely burned by its clothes taking fire,
that it died on Saturday. We have not learned how the child got on
fire, but it is supposed she must have come into close contact with the
hot stove. |

The
heaviest fall of snow since 1856 commenced Wednesday night until about
3 o'clock on Thursday afternoon; about 18 inches on the level ground.
Sunday another storm with wind and snow filled up the roads and paths
again. No eastern mails in a week and only two western mails since the
19th. Mail sent to New York by private conveyance instead of L. I. R.
The stage sleigh runs regularly now to and from Brooklyn. |

At Foster's Meadow, John Van Nostrand aged 94 years and 19 days.
Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to attend his funeral as
late residence. |

old citizen gone. – John Van Nostrand, of Foster's Meadow, died
on Tuesday last January 29 in his 95th year. He was born January 10,
1773. He remembered the Revolutionary war. He was a soldier in the war
of 1812. He was a man of uniformly correct habits – just and kind
in all dealings with his fellow man, and from early life a devout man.
He was for 40 years and elder in the reformed Dutch Church of this

buildings of Charles Newman at Foster's Meadow were destroyed by fire
on Monday morning last. In drawing water from the well to extinguish
the fire, the body of Mrs. Newman was found. It is supposed that in her
efforts to extinguish the flames, her clothing caught fire and that she
threw herself into the well to extinguish the flames |

Hotel at Foster's Meadow had Valentine Strants of Brooklyn collapse and
die when rising from the table after eating a hearty meal at about 3:00
PM. He had been on a hunting excursion. |

new German church of St. Boniface of Foster's Meadow was dedicated by
Vicar General Turner of Brooklyn. He was assisted by the Revs. Huber of
College Point, and Farley and Hubbard. |

A
soldier from a Foster's Meadow family stationed at Governor's Island
fell from the platform of the rear car of a moving train at
Springfield. He was taken severely injured from the Springfield station
to his family residence. |
